Project Proposal Guidelines

Proposal Format:

Proposal formats is following the general outline for Industry Research and Development proposals. The following is an example of a proposal:

Project Title (Every project needs one) Motion JPEG-2000 (Evolving Standard

Objective (Overall goals (besides getting a grade)) Motion JPEG-2000 is an extension of the JPEG-2000 compression standard that will apply the advances in still image compression to video compression. The project will present the status of the JPEG-2000 standards committee work developing the Motion JPEG standard. Experimental results presented by the standards committee will be reported.

Approach: Obtain access to JPEG-2000 standards committee web site detailing status papers and experiments in Motion JPEG. If possible obtain demonstration code from committee and demonstrate the prototype video compression algorithm in class.

Resources Needed - Access to JPEG-2000 committee web site and documents

Anticipated Schedule - One month to read and summarize relevant papers (and generate Status Report), two weeks to compile and run prototype code (if available). If code is not available, presentation will be made based on summarized documents and committee presentations. Two weeks to generate presentation.

Note that the Project Status Report will have an expanded Objective and Approach. The status report will also include a Progress Section with preliminary results.
